Meister: Trade deadline first impressions

Many people will contend that first impressions can make or break situations. Typically, the context is business or personal relationships, but at this time of year the same logic can often be applied to NHL trades and signings.

Every time fans, journalists or hockey insiders hear of a deal, there is no avoiding an immediate judgement. Time and others’ opinions can change that initial feeling.

My hope for Trade Deadline 2012 is that I can avoid that change in opinion. To keep me on track, below is my list of first impressions of each trade since the Jeff Carter deal really kicked things off. I’ve included select re-signings as well, since some of those sparked a more intense reaction than many trades.

And so you know, these were recorded immediately upon hearing of each deal. On my Blackberry, scraps of paper in my truck, and in the middle of meetings at work. No matter where, I made note of my first thought. Below is the entire collection.
